Who is Chance the Rapper?
Chancellor Jonathan Bennett, known professionally as Chance the Rapper, is an American hip-hop artist from Chicago, Illnois. He began to gain some recognition in 2013 for his mixtape ‘Acid Rap’ however, it was after the release of 2016’s ‘Coloring Book’ when he really he really started to get noticed.
What makes Chance different?
This is the first time that a streaming only artist has won a Grammy Award. His music is not on iTunes and you won’t be able to buy a CD copy of his album from HMV because Chance wants people to listen to his music for free. He even managed to achieve the milestone of selling half a million copies of his latest mixtape in America through streaming alone, something no other streaming only record has ever achieved.
Where can I listen to his music?
You can give ‘Coloring Book’ and Chance’s other two mixtapes ‘Acid Rap’ and ’10 Days’ a listen on Sound Cloud and Spotify.
In the meantime, here’s one of his first songs, a collaboration with Childish Gambino.
