After a 12 month break from the public eye, Ed Sheeran is back with two brand new songs from his new album set for release later this year. “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” debuted and Number 1 and Number 2 respectively on the UK Top 40 last Friday thanks to both songs helping to break his own streaming record. Shape of You was played a total of 7,240,930 times in a 24-hour period on the music streaming website Spotify.

The more upbeat of the two new releases sees a departure from the acoustic material with the instantly recognisable guitar strumming that has featured in the background of his previous efforts and instead Sheeran has made the unusual choice of writing a tropical house single.
Castle on the Hill
This song saw Sheeran team up with hitmaker, Benny Blanco, the producer behind his previous 2014 single “Don’t”. There is a very nostalgic feeling running throughout this song as the singer/songwriter reflects on his childhood and teenage years with the lyrics including: “Fifteen years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes” and “Made friends and lost them through the years”.
The two songs are just a hint of what else could feature on his new album, “Divide”, but if they are anything to go by it will be filled with more upbeat tracks. However, Ed has provided us with the track list in his own quirky way!
